Russia-Uzbekistan Valdai Conference to Be Held in Moscow

27 May

Experts from the Valdai Discussion Club and the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies (ISRS) under the President of Uzbekistan will meet in Moscow for a conference to discuss bilateral relations and their impact on stability and sustainable development across Eurasia. The theme of the event is “Russia and Uzbekistan: Priority Areas of Cooperation.”

According to organizers, since the launch of the Valdai Club’s Asia Conference in 2012, Russia and Uzbekistan have held annual bilateral meetings, alternating between the two countries as host venues.

The conference will be a one-day event and will feature three themed sessions. Experts will exchange views on key regional issues in Eurasia, trade and economic cooperation, food security in the context of global trade tensions, as well as technological and innovation partnerships — covering areas such as digital transformation, scientific and technological progress, and industrial modernization.

Partnership Beyond Sanctions

Organizers note that the worsening of relations between Russia and the West has served as a catalyst for deepening Moscow-Tashkent ties across a wide range of areas, including security, humanitarian cooperation, and the economy.

In today’s geopolitical context, both countries have demonstrated their ability to maintain socio-political stability and implement national development strategies, including through closer coordination within Central Asia and the broader Eurasian region. Contrary to the West’s intentions, anti-Russian sanctions have actually sparked greater mutual interest in technological and innovation cooperation, independent settlement mechanisms, and new transport corridors such as the Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan–Turkmenistan–Russia route.

Timofei Bordachev, Programme Director of the Valdai Club and Academic Supervisor of the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies at HSE University, noted that there has never been a precedent where Russia and Uzbekistan took opposing stances on major issues.

“I deeply value Uzbekistan’s efforts to strengthen international institutions and its coordination with Russia in multilateral forums. We are unaware of any case where our positions have come into conflict,” he stated.
