Russia Welcomes Parliamentary Elections in Tajikistan

03 March

Moscow has welcomed the successful parliamentary elections held in Tajikistan and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the alliance and strategic partnership between the two countries. This was stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.

“We welcome the successful elections to the Majlisi Namoyandagon — the lower house of Tajikistan’s parliament — held on March 2,” Zakharova said. “We remain firmly committed to deepening Russian-Tajik relations based on alliance and strategic partnership. We also expect cooperation between our countries’ parliaments to play an important role in this process.”

Zakharova highlighted that Russia shares the positive assessment of the elections provided by international observers. Monitoring was carried out by delegations from the CIS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, parliamentary assemblies of the CIS and CSTO, and other multilateral organizations. Observers noted that the elections were open, transparent, and conducted calmly in full compliance with national laws and international standards.

Preliminary results from Tajikistan’s Central Election Commission show a clear victory for the People’s Democratic Party, led by President Emomali Rahmon. According to Zakharova, this outcome reflects broad public support for the president’s political and economic reforms.
