Russian Ambassador Expects Leadership of Benin and Togo to Attend Russia–Africa Summit

04 February

Russia is actively collaborating with partners on the agenda for the third Russia–Africa Summit and anticipates that Benin and Togo will participate at the highest level, Igor Evdokimov, the Russian Ambassador to Benin and Togo, said in an interview with TASS.

The ambassador reminded that the 2026 Russia–Africa Summit will mark a historic milestone, as it will be the first time the event is hosted on the African continent.

"Together with our partners, we have developed concrete action plans and clear benchmarks for cooperation, and we see the political will necessary to achieve them," Evdokimov noted. "We are currently working intensely on the substantive content of the summit and, naturally, we count on the participation of Benin and Togo at the highest level."

When asked about his expectations for the upcoming event, the diplomat emphasized that the Russian side does not rely on mere expectations. "For us, the fundamental point is that this third summit represents a systemic format that has been placed on solid tracks," he remarked.

In this regard, Evdokimov added that the participants will have much to discuss, given the fundamental changes that have occurred globally and across the continent since the second summit was held in St. Petersburg in 2023.
