Russian Ambassador: Russia Committed to Mutually Beneficial Development of Relations with Bangladesh

11 February

Russia is committed to constructive interaction and the further development of relations with Bangladesh following the parliamentary elections scheduled for February 12, 2026, Alexander Khozin, the Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh, said in an interview with TASS.

"Russia is focused on constructive and mutually beneficial engagement with Bangladesh. We will respect any decision made by the Bangladeshi people in the upcoming parliamentary elections," the ambassador stated. "In our view, all the prerequisites are in place for Russia-Bangladesh relations, which are based on many years of friendship, to continue their development in the period ahead."

According to the head of the Russian diplomatic mission, both nations have immense potential to expand bilateral trade. "The construction of the Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant in Bangladesh is now in its final stage. There are also projects in other promising sectors. We operate on the premise that any government in Bangladesh acting in its national interests will maintain a friendly course toward our country," he noted.

The diplomat pointed out that over 54 years of diplomatic relations, Russia and Bangladesh have built a solid foundation for cooperation, drawing on both historical mutual understanding and modern strategic projects. "Our relationship has significant potential for further expansion — from strategic infrastructure projects to educational and cultural initiatives. A key factor remains the investment in human capital, as it is these humanitarian ties that form the stable basis for a partnership for decades to come," Khozin observed.

Among the promising areas for future cooperation, the ambassador highlighted education and vocational training for priority sectors of the Bangladeshi economy — ranging from agriculture and energy to digital technologies and climate research. He also mentioned expanding research collaboration between universities and specialized institutes, as well as cooperation in media and information exchange.

"Energy and high technology remain vital spheres of our interaction. The implementation of the Ruppur NPP project with the participation of Rosatom is an example of comprehensive cooperation that includes technology transfer and the training of Bangladeshi specialists. Furthermore, there is interest from both the Russian and Bangladeshi sides in collaborating on gas extraction and transportation. Russian companies also offer modern solutions in the field of renewable energy," Khozin concluded.
