Nuclear power engineering may become a priority area of cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan. Russian Ambassador to the republic Oleg Malginov said this at a press conference on Wednesday.
"The flagship direction of bilateral cooperation can certainly become cooperation in nuclear power and the construction of a nuclear power plant of Russian design in Uzbekistan," he said.
"Today, the Rosatom state corporation and the Uzatom agency are working on a draft general contract for the construction of the nuclear power plant," the ambassador added. According to him, engineering surveys have now been completed at the site selected for the construction of the nuclear power plant, and the optimal technical configuration of the project has been determined.
Malginov specified that the NPP will save about 3 billion cubic meters of gas annually. "In addition, more than 8 thousand new jobs will be created in Uzbekistan during the construction and operation of the plant," the ambassador said. He noted that Rosatom plans to widely involve local construction companies and suppliers of materials and equipment in the project.
