Russian and Egyptian diplomats discuss aspects of preparation for Russia-Africa summit

Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov met with First Deputy Foreign Minister Hamdi Loza and Deputy Foreign Ministers Ihab Nasr and Alayeddin Mousa at the Egyptian foreign ministry on March 19.


"During the conversation with Hamdi Loza, who is in charge of the African direction, they touched on aspects of mutual interest of the emerging situation in Africa with a focus on the situation in the continent's hot spots," the Russian diplomatic office said in a statement published on its website on Monday.


The Russian foreign ministry also noted that during the meeting "special attention was paid to the preparations for the second Russia-Africa summit in July 2023 in St. Petersburg, designed to determine the further vector of the complex progressive development of Russia's multidimensional cooperation with African states."


"A detailed review of the state and directions of further development of traditionally friendly relations between Moscow and Cairo was conducted with Ihab Nasr, who is in charge of European affairs," the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement. - "In the context of the 14th meeting of the Russian-Egyptian commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation taking place these days in Cairo, the importance of gradual increase of mutually beneficial partnership in investments, energy, agriculture, as well as in industrial cooperation was noted."


The Russian foreign ministry informed that "the conversation with Alayeddin Mousa, who supervises relations with Arab countries, was focused on topical regional issues with an emphasis on the importance of continuing close bilateral coordination between Russia and Egypt on the situation in the Middle East and North Africa." "In this regard, the Russian foreign ministry confirmed the mutual focus on finding ways to resolve the crises in Libya, Syria, Yemen, as well as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on a universally recognized international legal basis, including the Arab Peace Initiative," summarized the Russian foreign ministry.
