A meeting of the Russian and Egyptian foreign and defense ministers in the 2+2 format may take place in early 2022, Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov announced on Monday at a press conference following talks with Egyptian foreign minister Sameh Shoukry.
The Russian foreign minister noted that during the meeting he and his Egyptian counterpart stressed the importance of active joint work through all the ministries and departments concerned. "In this regard, we welcomed the dialogue between the defense ministries and security councils of the two countries. And such a format as regular meetings of foreign and defense ministers - 2+2 proved to be good. We agreed to prepare another such meeting early next year," Lavrov said.
The minister pointed out that trade and economic ties between Russia and Egypt are progressively developing despite some reduction in trade turnover in 2020. "At the beginning of this year, the progressive trend resumed," he noted. - "We are united in the opinion that the resumption of full-fledged air traffic between Russian cities and Egyptian resorts on the Red Sea in August this year will help restore the positive dynamics."
Lavrov emphasized that he and his Egyptian colleague also agreed to continue close interaction on all issues on the agenda of the UN and other multilateral forums.
