Russian citizens have not applied to the embassy in Tunisia for consular assistance in connection with the riots in the country, and there is no information about the detention of Russians because of violations of public order. Sultan Agametov, the diplomatic mission's press attache, said this on the air of the Rossiya-24 TV channel on Wednesday.

"At the moment, against the background of the events taking place in Tunisia, the embassy has not received information from the local competent authorities about the facts of detention of Russians due to violations of public order. Russian citizens have not applied for consular support either," he said.

Mass riots began on Saturday evening in the capital region and several provinces of Tunisia. Rioters built barricades, burned car tires, and acts of vandalism and looting were reported. In some provinces of Tunisia, the unrest continued on Sunday and Monday. On Tuesday, clashes were reported between protesters and security forces in the Tunisian capital. To protect public and private property, the country's authorities introduced army units into several provinces on Sunday. According to the Interior Ministry, law enforcement authorities detained a total of more than 870 rioters.
