13 July 2021

Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov discussed with the UN Secretary-General's Envoy to Libya, Ján Kubiš, the implementation of the road map for a settlement in Libya.

"In the course of a detailed conversation they discussed a set of issues related to the promotion of the roadmap for the settlement in Libya approved by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, including preparations for the general elections in the country on December 24 this year," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued on Monday.

The Foreign Ministry also noted that the Russian side confirmed its unchanged position on the need to ensure a Libyan-wide consensus on the key issues of the national agenda on the principles of commitment to the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Libya. "In this context, the UN role in facilitating the achievement of these goals in accordance with the decisions of the world community, including the UN Security Council resolutions, was supported," the Ministry added.
