Many foreign players artificially forced the issue of Sudan's armed forces management. Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Anna Yevstigneyeva said this on Tuesday at a meeting of the Security Council of the world organization.
"We are forced to state that the current crisis in Sudan was largely the result of external interference in its sovereign affairs, attempts to force political engineering and imposition of democratic prescriptions on it," the diplomat said. According to her, "the reform of the country's security sector was one of the most difficult issues that required increased attention and a patient negotiation process."
"At the same time we saw that many external players artificially forced the transfer of power to civilian forces, imposed a number of decisions not accepted by broad sectors of the population. The political framework agreement of December 5, 2022, was widely advertised by a number of states, but it never became an inclusive platform for various intra-Sudanese forces," Yevstigneyeva stressed.
She noted that "a number of political heavyweights were left out of such a format." "Such an approach could hardly contribute to the advancement of a comprehensive settlement," the diplomat said.
