For the moment the situation in Guinea is quite calm, and Russian citizens have not applied for help to the embassy, the Russian diplomatic mission in Conakry told TASS on Friday.
"The situation in the country is relatively calm. The embassy is working as usual," the embassy said.
The diplomatic mission pointed out that there was no direct threat to Russian citizens, and no appeals for help from compatriots.
On September 5, Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, commander of Guinea's elite special forces unit, announced the arrest of President Alpha Condé, who had been the leader of the country since 2010. The rebels formed the National Committee for Cohesion and Development of Guinea, abrogated the constitution, dissolved the government and parliament, appointed military governors, and imposed a curfew.
On Friday, the African Union suspended Guinea's membership in the union following a military coup in that country.
