Russia's Embassy in Tripoli may be opened before the end of the year, even earlier, Mikhail Bogdanov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Middle East and Africa, told reporters on Tuesday.
"[The embassy] may be [opened] even before [the end of the year]," he said in response to a related question.
According to him, the Russian Charge d'Affaires in Libya, who is working in Tunisia, intends to visit Tripoli to "see how to settle in."
"Nobody closed [the embassy]. It was just trashed, burned by bandits, so there's nowhere to work. At the first stage, I think we will have to be based in some hotel: precautionary, security methods," Bogdanov noted.
In addition, Russia is considering opening a consulate in Benghazi. "The talk was that some consular institution, the presence would be in the east, in Benghazi, as it was before 1992: we had a consulate general," said the Deputy Foreign Minister.
