Structures controlled by the United States government export up to 66,000 barrels of oil from Syria every day. This is stated in a joint statement of the interagency coordination headquarters of Russia and Syria, published on Thursday in the Telegram channel of the Russian embassy in Washington.
"According to the Ministry of Oil and Natural Resources of Syria, the US-controlled structures illegally export up to 66,000 barrels of oil every day, which is 80% of the hydrocarbons produced per day. The scale of Washington's oil theft has reached a maximum. Because of this, the humanitarian situation in the country remains difficult, millions of Syrians face shortages of energy, food and water and are in need of basic necessities," the document says. - "Russia and Syria strongly condemn <...> the plundering by occupier countries of natural resources belonging to the Syrian people."
The statement also noted that the people of Syria are alarmed by this scale of oil theft and need the support of the international community, which must respond to the actions of the United States accordingly.
Damascus regularly accuses Washington of smuggling Syrian oil. On August 21, the SANA news agency reported that US servicemen took 137 tanks of oil from Kurdish-controlled areas in the northeast of Syria. According to Al Mayadeen TV channel, the Western coalition led by the US is assisting the Kurdish autonomous administration in setting up production at the previously mothballed wells.
Most of Syria's eastern and northeastern provinces of Al-Hasakah, Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa are now controlled by the Kurdish Democratic Syrian Forces, which are supported by the United States. Since 2015, the US command has established nine military bases in these areas.
Damascus views the US military presence as an illegal occupation.
