Russian EMERCOM has held 24 humanitarian missions in six years in Africa, delivering 16,000 tons of food, the press service of the ministry informed TASS on Tuesday. The ministry's press service told TASS on Tuesday.
"Since 2017, more than 16 thousand tons of food has been delivered to Africa with the participation of the Russian emergency ministry, 24 humanitarian operations have been carried out, assistance has been provided to 17 countries," the ministry said.
On Tuesday, EMERCOM head Alexander Kurenkov received 55 representatives from 33 African countries in Moscow. They discussed the protection of people and territories against natural and man-made emergencies during the meeting. As noted in the department, EMERCOM stands for the unification of efforts of states and international organizations to strengthen prevention and elimination of emergencies. "No country in the world is able to cope with large-scale emergencies alone. We are open for dialogue with foreign colleagues and ready to build long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation," the minister was quoted in the press service.
Foreign delegations saw the work of the National Center for Crisis Management, information systems, including space-based monitoring. EMERCOM of Russia assists foreign colleagues in the development of their own systems to combat disasters, the ministry said. A demonstration and business program is planned for July 2023 within the framework of the Russia-Africa summit.
