Moscow and Islamabad are in talks on the supply of Russian oil, but there are no specific agreements yet. Russian Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov said this in an interview with The Nation daily published on Wednesday.
"The negotiation process on oil supplies has not been completed, so it is premature to talk about any agreements, even tentative ones," the daily quoted the minister as saying.
Shulginov said the issues of buying oil and providing discounts are in the realm of market relations. Both sides are working to ensure a mutually beneficial agreement, addressing logistics and financial issues in order to establish a full-fledged trade of Russian oil.
The minister added that Russia sees no problem for Pakistani companies to buy oil on the same terms as other partners after resolving technical issues.
Islamabad will host another round of consultations in the framework of the Russian-Pakistani Inter-Governmental Commission (IGC) on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation from January 18 to 20, 2023. The Russian side will be headed by Minister of Energy Shulginov, the Pakistani side by Federal Minister of Economic Affairs Ayaz Sadiq. It is planned that the talks will discuss ways to pay for energy resources, transportation costs and insurance.
