During the plenary session of the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia will send hundreds of specialists to African countries until 2026 and supply 10 mobile laboratories.
"A large-scale program of assistance to Africa in the fight against infections has been prepared, planned until 2026, with a budget of 1.2 billion rubles allocated for this purpose. As part of this program, 10 mobile laboratories will be delivered to countries across the continent, and hundreds of specialists will receive training. Additionally, joint research initiatives will be undertaken," stated the president.
Putin highlighted that Russia demonstrated its commitment to supporting African countries during the coronavirus pandemic by providing millions of Russian tests to the region. He emphasized the collaborative efforts with South Africa in conducting scientific research on new strains of the dangerous virus.
According to the president, the Russian Federation recently provided 2 Russian mobile laboratories to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Additionally, in the city of Kindia, the Russian-Guinean center for the study of infections has been equipped, leading to the development of over 20 diagnostic preparations.
"About 1,500 local specialists have been trained in Russian methods of prevention and control of infections, further contributing to the capacity-building efforts in African countries. Furthermore, a joint center for the study of infections has been established in Burundi," Putin added.
