Russian Foreign Minister to hold bilateral meetings in Jakarta

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of Indonesia, Laos and the secretary-general of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) today, according to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. Lavrov's visit forms part of his participation in the Russia-ASEAN foreign ministers' meetings in Jakarta.


Zakharova noted that Lavrov would begin his day with a Russia-Indonesia-China meeting, followed by meetings with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Laos Foreign Minister Salemsai Kommasith, and ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn. Lavrov is also expected to meet with Wang Yi, Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, along with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Ali Sabri and Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, who is acting foreign minister.

 



The visit comes amidst increasing interest in deepening relations with Southeast Asia. Lavrov is also expected to participate in meetings of the foreign ministers of the East Asia Summit and the ASEAN Regional Security Forum on 14th July as part of the discussions on regional security.
