Russian Foreign Ministry continues to actively promote the return of underage Russians from Syria

The Russian Foreign Ministry and the Russian Embassy in Damascus continue to actively promote the return of Russian children to their homeland from Syria, the message of the diplomatic mission distributed on Friday reads.


"The Russian Foreign Ministry and the Russian Embassy in Damascus have been actively working and continue to work for the rapid return of Russian children from Syria. For this purpose, our consular officials have repeatedly traveled to areas currently outside the control of the government of the SAR and administered by the self-proclaimed administration of the north-east of Syria, visited the camp for temporarily displaced persons El-Khol",  the Ministry added.

 

 

On the night from October 15 to 16, the plane of the Russian Ministry of Defense landed at Chkalovsky airfield and delivered 27 children from Syria.


Work on locating and return home of underage citizens of Russia who are in Iraq and Syria began in summer 2017. It is being conducted on the instructions of the Russian President. Under the Commissioner for children's rights, a special interagency commission was established to facilitate the return of children to their homeland. During the work of this commission, 224 children were returned to Russia from the zones of armed conflicts in the Middle East: 122 from Iraq and 102 from Syria.
