Russian Foreign Ministry: Nuclear Threat in the Middle East Is Real, Not Hypothetical

18 June

The nuclear threat in the Middle East is not hypothetical but very real, posing a danger to both the region and the world, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

“This is not just about escalation — this is a direct threat to regional and global security, especially given that strikes are targeting peaceful nuclear facilities,” Zakharova stated in an interview with Sputnik Radio. “The nuclear threat is no longer hypothetical; it’s a matter of practical concern.”

She emphasized that Iran has always had — and continues to have — the right to operate peaceful nuclear facilities, which are now under attack.
