Russia assumes that the internal conflicts in Tunisia will be resolved solely in accordance with the rule of law, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

"We assume that the internal contradictions in Tunisia will be resolved exclusively in the legal field. We expect that Russian-Tunisian friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation will continue to develop progressively for the benefit of the peoples of our countries," the Foreign Ministry said.

The diplomatic office notes that according to reports the situation remains generally quiet in the Tunisian capital and major cities. "The international airport, public utilities and transport infrastructure are functioning normally," the Russian Foreign Ministry added.

"In connection with the unfolding situation in Tunisia, we recommend that Russian citizens staying in this country exercise caution, refrain from visiting crowded places and be guided by the information posted on the website of the Russian embassy," the statement noted.

On July 25, Tunisian President Kais Saied announced the suspension of Parliament for 30 days, the lifting of immunity of all deputies and the resignation of Prime Minister Hicham al-Mashishi. Army units were brought into the capital of the republic. On July 26, Saied issued a decree dismissing National Defense Minister Brahim Bertaji and Acting Justice Minister Hasna bin Slimani. These decisions were taken after demonstrations were held on Sunday in several major cities demanding the dissolution of Parliament, a change of political regime as well as bringing to justice those responsible for the worsening epidemic and socio-economic situation in the republic.
