Russian Foreign Ministry Urges Warring Parties in Sudan to Cease Hostilities

05 May

Moscow is calling on all parties involved in the conflict in Sudan to immediately end the fighting and intensify diplomatic efforts. This message was conveyed in a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

According to the ministry, drone strikes were carried out on May 4 targeting several sites in the city of Port Sudan, including the civilian airport. As a result, air traffic to and from the city — currently Sudan’s main air hub — has been suspended.

“Moscow urges all parties to halt the violence without delay and to engage in political and diplomatic efforts aimed at launching a broad, inclusive inter-Sudanese dialogue, free from external interference. Such dialogue should lead to lasting peace in the country and ensure the preservation of Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity,” the statement read.

The Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern over the ongoing bloodshed between Sudan’s regular army and the Rapid Support Forces, which has continued since April 2023.

“Russia considers attacks on civilian infrastructure unacceptable and firmly supports strict adherence to international humanitarian law,” the statement concluded.
