Russian MFA: African ambassadors expressed solidarity with the goals of the Russian special operation in Donbass

Ambassadors of several African states in Moscow on Tuesday at a meeting with Russian Presidential Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov expressed understanding and solidarity with Russia's position and the goals of the special military operation in Ukraine.


According to the diplomatic office, the meeting was attended by Ambassador of Congo in Moscow David Maduka, Ambassador of the Central African Republic Leon Dodonu, Ambassador of Benin Akambi André Okunlola Biau, as well as Ambassador of the Republic of Guinea Majou Kake.


"The conversation focused on the situation in and around Ukraine. At the same time, the ambassadors of African states expressed their understanding and solidarity with Russia's principled position and the goals of the special military operation to protect the peaceful population of Donbass," the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement.


The sides also discussed issues of further development of ties between Russia and Africa. "The main directions of further development of diversified ties between Russia and Africa on the solid foundation of traditionally friendly relations and equal long-term cooperation that meets the task of strengthening the independence and sovereignty of the Afro Union member countries were also considered," the diplomatic office added.


The foreign ministry notes that the meeting was held at the initiative of the ambassadors.


On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in response to a request from the leaders of the Donbass republics for assistance, announced a special military operation in Ukraine, the goals of which are the demilitarization and denazification of the country.
