Russian MFA appoints Alexey Pereverzev as Consul General in Mazar-e-Sharif

Alexey Pereverzev was appointed Consul General of Russia in Mazar-e-Sharif by the order of the Russian MFA. The relevant information was published on the website of the Russian diplomatic office.


Pereverzev has been on the diplomatic service since 2009. He held various positions in the central office of the MFA and Russian embassy in Afghanistan. He holds the diplomatic rank of first secretary 1st class, assigned in June 2020. Since 2022, he has been first secretary of the second Asian department of the Russian MFA of the Russian Federation. He speaks Persian, English and Spanish.


In July 2021, Zamir Kabulov, Russian Presidential Special Representative for Afghanistan and Director of the Second Asia Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, told TASS that the consulate general in Mazar-e-Sharif had suspended its work because of the deteriorating situation in the north of the country. Russian diplomats have been evacuated. In an interview with TASS in January 2022, Kabulov said that the issue of resuming the work of the consulate general requires thorough interagency work, especially security issues.
