Russia supports Africa’s efforts to strengthen its sovereign collective voice on the global stage and endorses its aspiration to achieve fair representation on the United Nations Security Council, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin said in an interview with TASS.
“We stand with Africa in its efforts to strengthen its collective sovereign voice in international affairs, based on the principles of the UN Charter in their entirety and interconnection,” Vershinin said. “We share the aspiration of African countries to achieve equitable representation on the UN Security Council, in line with the continent’s common position as set out in the Ezulwini Consensus and the Sirte Declaration.”
Vershinin recalled that Russia’s Foreign Policy Concept defines a comprehensive framework for developing cooperation with the African continent on both bilateral and multilateral levels. “We support our African friends in implementing the ambitious goals laid out in the African Union’s strategic document Agenda 2063,” he added.
