Russian MFA: grain deal is not being implemented exactly as promised

09 September 2022

The grain deal is not being implemented exactly as expected, its further extension will depend on the implementation of the agreement, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko told reporters on Friday.

"We are looking at how it (the deal - TASS) is being implemented," he said. - "Unfortunately, it is not implemented in the way it was planned."

As Rudenko stressed, the extension of the agreement will depend on "how all the parts are fulfilled."

"The second part of the deal, concerning the export of Russian grain and fertilizers, still faces difficulties," the deputy foreign minister said.

On July 22 a package of documents on food and fertilizer supplies to the international market was signed in Istanbul. In particular, thanks to a memorandum signed by Russia and the UN, the international community joined efforts to lift anti-Russian restrictions impeding export of the above commodities. Another document approved a mechanism for grain exports from Ukrainian-controlled Black Sea ports. Based on an agreement between Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the UN, a coordination center was established to ensure inspection of vessels with grain, as well as to suppress provocations and prevent arms smuggling. The UN's goal is to reach an export volume of 2-5 million tons of food per month.
