Most African countries have confirmed their participation in the Russia-Africa summit to be held in St. Petersburg at the end of July. Russian Foreign Ministry's Ambassador-at-Large Oleg Ozerov said on Monday at a round table in the Federation Council.
"I can confirm that most countries of the continent have already confirmed their participation [in the summit]," Ozerov pointed out.
The diplomat noted that the event is designed to give a powerful impetus for the development of Russia's relations with the continent. "The Russian MFA is actively working with African partners. Over the past year, [Russian Foreign Minister] Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov has already made four trips to the continent, the last of which - Burundi, Kenya, Mozambique, South Africa - took place just over a week ago. And all of them confirmed that African leaders have even higher hopes for the St. Petersburg summit than for the Sochi event," he added.
The second Russia-Africa summit and economic forum are scheduled for July 26-29 in St. Petersburg. The first event was held October 22-24, 2019, in Sochi under the slogan "For Peace, Security and Development."
