Russian Presidential Special Envoy Arrives in Afghanistan, Meets with Acting Foreign Minister

Russian President's Special Representative for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov held a meeting with Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting foreign minister in the Afghan government formed by the Taliban (banned in Russia). This information was reported by the Russian Embassy in Kabul.

 

"As part of his visit to the Afghan capital, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov held a meeting with the Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Amir Muttaqi," stated the official statement from the Russian diplomatic mission, as published on its official Telegram channel.

 

The meeting has been confirmed by both sides. They discussed the development of bilateral relations and the potential involvement of Taliban representatives in international structures. Muttaqi expressed readiness to assist Russian projects for transporting goods to South Asia after the reconstruction of the Salang Pass highway.

 

Since the US withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, the Taliban has taken control of the country, with Kabul falling on August 15, 2021. The interim government announced by the Taliban is not recognized by any country.
