The Russian mission to the Palestinian National Authority in Ramallah in the West Bank confirmed to TASS that it aided Russian nationals wishing to leave the Gaza Strip due to the ongoing Israeli military operation in the enclave’s administrative center.
“For now, we can only confirm that assistance with evacuation took place yesterday (September 17),” the diplomatic mission stated. Details regarding the number of people evacuated and their destinations have not been disclosed.
Meanwhile, the Russian Embassy in Jordan said it “does not comment” on reports about the alleged evacuation of Russian citizens from Gaza to Jordan. The embassy added that active work is currently underway but provided no further details.
On September 16, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that the Israeli military had launched a planned large-scale ground offensive in Gaza City. The operation aims to establish full control over the city and defeat remaining armed units of the Palestinian Hamas movement. According to Israeli army spokesperson General Effi Defrin, fully capturing Gaza City could take several months, followed by additional months needed for clearing operations.
