The school at the Russian embassy in Egypt celebrated its 50th anniversary on Wednesday with a big concert at the Russian center of science and culture in Cairo.
"Our school brings together and unites children of different nations, helping to strengthen mutual understanding not just today, but for decades to come. Many students who have studied here will have good feelings for their classmates from other countries throughout their lives," said Russian Ambassador to Egypt Georgy Borisenko, opening the festive event. He said that the school is attended not only by children of Russian servicemen going on long business trips, but also by many children from families permanently residing in Egypt, including mixed families, as well as sons and daughters of diplomats from Belarus, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and other states. According to Borisenko, in this way, "the school performs an important diplomatic function."
Students, teachers, and even parents performed on the stage of the Russian House. Words of gratitude and congratulations were said by graduates of different years. The event was attended by the heads of the diplomatic missions of the post-Soviet countries, including Ambassador of Belarus to Egypt Sergey Terentyev, representatives of educational teams of Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh and the school of JSC "Atomstroyexport" in El Dabaa, where the first nuclear power plant in Egypt is being built with the support of Rosatom.
The elementary school under the Soviet Embassy in Egypt was opened back in 1957, and in 1972 it started functioning as a six-year school, the year when it is considered to be the beginning of its foundation.
