Russian trade representative in Kazakhstan called for the development of new commodity routes

Russia and Kazakhstan should actively develop new routes for the sale of goods amid the crisis international trade is experiencing. Andrei Babko, Russia's trade representative in Astana, said this on Thursday.

"Now, when international trade is in crisis, it is especially relevant to create new routes for selling goods. Particular attention is paid to the development of joint transport and logistics infrastructure and the removal of restrictions hindering trade and investment exchanges," he said during the expert discussion "Russia - Kazakhstan. New trajectories of business relations and partnership success stories", which is held as part of the Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum.

According to him, Russia and Kazakhstan are implementing large-scale measures to reorient their export-import operations to new markets. "Work is underway to equip and improve the efficiency of new trunk international corridors. For example, the North-South projects," explained Babko.

The trade representative noted that cooperation in the field of information technology is promising. "In today's realities, Russian companies are increasingly considering Kazakhstan's market as a priority. Kazakhstani IT companies have great experience in digitalization of public services. Russian developers create software that does not require translation and can be used without additional training. Digital transformation opens up great opportunities for further integration between our countries and creates prerequisites for strengthening cooperation in other, so-called classic sectors as well," he explained.

Overall, as Babko emphasized, Russia and Kazakhstan have broad prospects for joint work in a variety of economic spheres, including high-tech ones.

Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum - 2023 "Time of Siberia" is held on March 1-3 in a hybrid format. The main venue is the Siberian Federal University, with field studios in Moscow, Beijing, and Astana. TASS is the general information partner of the forum.
