02 December 2022

Russia helps Turkmenistan develop the technical base of the water management complex, including the cooperation in construction of technical ships. This was stated by Russian Trade Representative to Turkmenistan Alexander Yelizarov in the interview to the TASS correspondent.

According to him, the trade mission has been carrying out systematic work to develop industrial cooperation in this sector over the last four years. "An important area of cooperation between our countries in the shipbuilding industry is joint construction of technical vessels, such as dredgers. We are working on it, because the need is big - the water management complex is developing in Turkmenistan. We help develop the technical base of the country's water industry as a whole on a mutually beneficial basis," he said.

Yelizarov added that such vessels are needed in Turkmenistan for dredging operations in the port of Turkmenbashi, and for maintaining water channels and the Karakum Canal in proper condition.

He also noted that work on joint construction of merchant ships is underway in the field of shipbuilding. "For the last four years we have concluded agreements on cooperation between large Russian shipbuilding companies and the Balkan shipyard. In the near future, I am sure, we will start implementing specific projects. I cannot speak about the exact terms, but we are working on it", said the interlocutor.
