The office of the Russkiy Mir Foundation opened on Wednesday at Guilan University in the city of Rasht in northern Iran, Dmitry Kalenichenko, a representative of Rossotrudnichestvo in Iran, told TASS.
"We congratulate Guilan University on the opening of the office of the Russkiy Mir Foundation," he said. Andrei Vadov, Russian Consul-General in Rasht, also attended the ceremony. Russkiy Mir Foundation provided the room with textbooks, literature and methodological manuals for teaching the Russian language.
"Representatives of Guilan University said that they intend to cooperate with Russkiy Mir on training students," Kalenichenko noted. He recalled that "this year Rossotrudnichestvo unilaterally decided to increase the number of quotas for Iranian students by more than three times." "We hope that as a result of this work, we will be able to further increase the number of [budgetary] places for Iranians in Russian universities," he added.
Kalenichenko told TASS on October 17 that Rossotrudnichestvo will increase the number of budget quotas for studies in Russia given on a competitive basis to applicants from Iran from 90 to 300 starting next year. In 2021 in the Islamic republic, the competition in the relevant program was more than 10 people per place.
Russkiy Mir Foundation was established by a decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 21, 2007. The purpose of the organization is to popularize the Russian language and support programs for its learning in Russia and abroad. The foundation develops a network of international Russian centers and "Russkiy Mir" classrooms which holds Russian language courses, Russian literature and culture clubs, festivals, competitions, quizzes for the best knowledge of Russian history and other events.
