Russia adheres to a consistent policy in Afghanistan, based on ensuring the security of its own borders and borders of allied countries in Central Asia, Russian deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov told the RT Arabic channel.
"We take what is happening with maximum seriousness because the situation there has changed fundamentally. In this regard, we adhere to a consistent policy that ensures our interests, among which is, of course, ensuring stability and security of our borders and those of our allies in Central Asia and in the region as a whole," the deputy minister stressed. He added that Russia did not interrupt the dialogue with representatives of the Taliban movement (banned in Russia), and Moscow is interested in dialogue with all the Afghan parties.
"We need to give Afghans an opportunity to determine ultimately their own destiny and the path that long-suffering Afghanistan will take with all its ethnic, religious and other characteristics," Ryabkov said.
