The embassies of Saudi Arabia and Australia in Pakistan have warned of possible terrorist attacks in the Pakistani capital over the New Year holidays.
The Express Tribune reported Tuesday that the diplomatic missions recommended citizens of their countries to remain vigilant and refrain from visiting crowded places in Islamabad in the coming days.
Earlier, the US and British embassies had issued similar warnings.
Security forces in the Pakistani capital were put on high alert late last week after a December 23 bombing in Islamabad that killed two people. It was the first suicide attack in the capital since 2014.
The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.
According to the Pakistani interior ministry, since August 2021, when the radical Taliban (banned in Russia) seized power in Afghanistan, the number of terrorist attacks in Pakistan has increased to 420. 141 of them were carried out in the last three months by TTP militants.
