Saudi Arabia Rules Out Use of Its Airspace for Strikes Against Iran

28 January

Saudi Arabia will not allow its airspace or territory to be used for any military operations against Iran, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud informed Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during a telephone call on Tuesday.

The Saudi Press Agency reported that the crown prince emphasized Riyadh’s commitment to respecting the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran. "The Kingdom will not allow its airspace or territory to be used for any military actions against Iran or any attacks from any side, regardless of their destination," the statement read. During the conversation, Pezeshkian updated the crown prince on the progress of negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program and provided an overview of the internal situation in the country.

The diplomatic outreach comes as regional tensions surge following statements from US President Donald Trump, who recently indicated that Washington is considering the use of force against Tehran in response to ongoing protests within the Islamic Republic. On January 23, the US president confirmed that the United States is closely monitoring Iran and has deployed a "big flotilla".
