Saudi Arabia has reopened its embassy in Kabul three years after the Taliban (banned in Russia) took control of Afghanistan in 2021.
“In line with the Kingdom's commitment to provide all forms of assistance to the brotherly people of Afghanistan, the decision was made to resume the operations of the Kingdom's representation in Kabul,” stated the embassy in a message posted on its X account.
The Kingdom had evacuated its diplomatic staff in August 2021, immediately after the Taliban declared control over all districts of the Afghan capital. Three months later, Riyadh decided to reopen the consular section of its embassy in Kabul. However, in February 2023, all Saudi diplomats again left Afghanistan, returning to the Kingdom due to security concerns.
