The member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) strongly condemned the US and Israeli strikes on Iran in June 2025, highlighting the unacceptable nature of causing damage to nuclear infrastructure during military conflicts. This was stated in the final declaration of the summit held in Tianjin.
“The member states firmly condemned the military strikes by the State of Israel and the United States of America against the Islamic Republic of Iran in June 2025. Such aggressive actions against civilian targets, including nuclear energy infrastructure, which resulted in civilian casualties, constitute a blatant violation of international law principles and UN Charter norms, and violate the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the document reads.
SCO countries emphasized that the safety of all nuclear infrastructure must be ensured during armed conflicts “to protect populations and the environment from harm.” They called on all parties involved in resolving the Iranian nuclear program to engage in constructive dialogue and joint efforts to prevent further escalation.
