Second Russia-Africa summit to address more humanitarian issues

19 June 2023

Discussion of humanitarian issues at the second Russia-Africa summit will be more extensive than at the first one, Russian Foreign Ministry's Ambassador-at-Large Oleg Ozerov said on Monday at a round table in the Federation Council.

"Compared to the Sochi [Russia-Africa] summit in 2019, this time the humanitarian dimension of the event will be significantly expanded by including in our discussion issues of cooperation in education, health, science, culture, media, sports, personnel training, as well as interaction through youth and public associations," he pointed out.

According to Ozerov, along with food and energy security of African states Russia also lists "the topic of technology transfer, expertise, industrial development and critical infrastructure in Africa" among its priorities.

The second Russia-Africa summit and economic forum is scheduled for July 26-29 in St. Petersburg. The first event was held October 22-24, 2019, in Sochi under the slogan "For Peace, Security and Development."
