The recent Russia-US consultations in Riyadh were constructive, but their effectiveness will largely depend on Ukraine’s position, which remains unpredictable, according to Leonid Slutsky, the Head of the State Duma’s Foreign Affairs Committee and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR).
"I'm confident the talks were constructive. The question is how this will translate into real security measures, particularly for maritime shipping, and how Ukraine will respond. As we know, its actions are not always predictable," Slutsky said on Rossiya-24.
The negotiations, which took place on March 24, lasted more than 12 hours. The Russian delegation was led by Grigory Karasin, the Chairman of the Federation Council's Foreign Affairs Committee, and Sergei Beseda, the Advisor to the Director of Russia’s Federal Security Service. The US delegation included Andrew Peek, Senior Director for Europe at the National Security Council, Michael Anton, Director of Policy Planning at the State Department, as well as aides to Ukraine envoy Keith Kellogg and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.
