Somali security forces successfully thwarted two terrorist attacks in the capital city of Mogadishu, as reported by the government news agency SONNA.
The first incident involved a suicide bomber driving a truck filled with explosives, who attempted to carry out an attack at a military base in the Kahda region. According to Goobjoog News, security forces managed to block the entrance to the base with equipment, forcing the explosion to occur outside the facility. Although there were unconfirmed reports of casualties, the main target was protected.
A second, similar incident occurred in the Elasha-Biyaha neighborhood. The final target of the terrorists was not specified by the agency.
In both cases, Somali security forces successfully prevented the attacks from reaching their intended targets by blocking access, according to Somali Deputy Information Minister Abdirahman Yusuf al-Adala.
Somali authorities believe that the terrorist attacks were orchestrated by al-Shabaab militants.
