State Duma proposed to deploy ships with Tsirkon missiles in Syria

28 December 2021

Andrei Kartapolov, head of the State Duma Defense Committee, believes that Russian ships with hypersonic Tsirkon missiles could be stationed in the port of Tartus in Syria to completely close off the Mediterranean Sea.

"We still have our base in the Mediterranean Sea, we have Khmeimim. There (in the port of Tartus - ed.) are also coastal missile systems, there too may be ships that are armed with hypersonic Tsirkon missiles that will completely block the entire Mediterranean Sea," Kartapolov said in a broadcast on the YouTube channel "Solovyov Live."

According to him, "military measures do not necessarily mean war, it is also the creation of direct threats to the enemy, in which he will give up his further actions." "That is, when they realize that there is a direct threat to destroy their strike assets that are in Eastern Europe, their command and control systems, their aircraft carrier groups. What's the point of starting something if you're going to lose beforehand? They are very sensitive to defeat," he added.
