The Sudanese military has regained control of Khartoum International Airport, pushing out the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which had held the site since April 2023. Al Jazeera reported the development, citing army sources.
According to the report, the airport is now “fully secured.” The army has also taken control of the Manshiyya Bridge, a key crossing over the Blue Nile.
This marks another significant gain for the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). Just days earlier, they recaptured the presidential palace (March 21) and took back the central bank (March 22).
Sudan has been engulfed in violent clashes since April 2023, when a power struggle between army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo escalated into full-scale conflict. Fighting quickly spread from Khartoum and Merowe to other parts of the country, leaving thousands dead and tens of thousands wounded.
