Sudan's special forces declare truce with army over Eid al-Adha celebrations

27 June 2023

Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, Head of Sudan's Rapid Support Force (special forces), unilaterally announced a truce with the Sudanese army, Al Arabiya reported on Monday.

The truce comes into effect on Tuesday and will be valid during the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha (Kurban Bayram).

Earlier on Monday, Al Hadath quoted a special forces spokesman as saying that consultations between the opposing sides on the ceasefire have been postponed until after Eid al-Adha, which ends on July 2.

The last truce between the army and the special forces, which had been announced for three days, officially ended last Wednesday, but the day before the parties had already started another armed clash in the country's capital. In the past two months, the parties to the Sudanese conflict have declared a truce more than 10 times, but none of them has been fully observed.
