Syrian Air Defenses Intercept Most Israeli Missiles Near Damascus

29 December 2023

Syrian air defenses successfully intercepted the majority of missiles launched by the Israeli Air Force on the outskirts of Damascus, as reported by a spokesperson for the Armed Forces Command of the Arab republic to the SANA news agency.

"The aggressive attack occurred on Thursday around 23:05," - the spokesperson stated. - "The enemy targeted several of our positions from the occupied Golan Heights, and our air defense systems responded effectively, successfully intercepting and neutralizing the majority of the missiles."

The spokesperson further noted that while the shelling caused material damage, there were no reported casualties among military personnel.

According to information from the Al Hadath TV channel, the recent strikes targeted Damascus International Airport, which had only recently resumed operations two days prior, having been previously incapacitated on November 26 due to an Israeli air force attack.

This marks another incident in a series of missile strikes on Aleppo and Damascus airfields on October 12, 15, and 22. As a result of runway damage, the Republic's Ministry of Transport made the decision to divert regular flights to the airports of Aleppo and Latakia.
