On Thursday, the Syrian army's air defense systems successfully intercepted and downed five drones that were launched in an attempt to target military installations situated north and west of Aleppo (approximately 360 km from Damascus). These drones were identified as being launched by militants affiliated with the extremist group Jabhat al-Nusra (banned in Russia), as reported by Al Watan.
In response to continuous ceasefire violations by the extremists in the northern de-escalation zone, artillery forces targeted their positions. This resulted in the destruction of enemy command centers and rear bases in the mountainous region of Jabal al-Zawiya, as well as in the settlements of al-Atarib, Kensarfa, and Kafr Nuran. The militants incurred casualties, with both fatalities and wounded reported.
The newspaper indicated that on August 3, the militants carried out mortar attacks on the villages of Urum al-Sugra and Sheikh Ali, located to the north and west of Aleppo. These villages are under the protection of government forces. Additionally, army posts in the southern region of Idlib province were targeted.
The activities of the Jabhat al-Nusra militant groups have notably escalated since the start of 2023. According to Al Hadath TV, these armed attacks have resulted in the deaths of 57 civilians, including 18 children, in northern Syria.
