Syrian Foreign and Defense Ministers Discuss Partnership with Putin

Syria’s Foreign Minister in the transitional government, Asaad al-Shaibani, and Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss ways to advance bilateral military-technical cooperation, according to an official statement reported by the state news agency SANA.

 

The statement noted that defense cooperation with Russia aims to bolster security and stability in Syria and the broader Middle East. Talks focused on enhancing the Syrian army’s capabilities through modernizing military equipment, introducing cutting-edge developments, and sharing military-technical expertise, with particular emphasis on the strategic nature of collaboration in the defense-industrial sector.

 

The sides also highlighted the importance of political and diplomatic coordination between Damascus and Moscow on international platforms amid recent regional and global developments.

 

Additionally, the meeting covered prospects for expanding trade and economic ties, reconstruction projects for economic infrastructure, and attracting investments to Syria. The statement said such efforts are intended to positively impact the Syrian economy and improve living standards for the population.
