Security forces from Syria's transitional government have entered the city of Hasakah, the administrative center of the eponymous northeastern province. The city had previously been under the control of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) coalition, according to reports from Syria TV.
Footage broadcast by the channel showed a convoy of Ministry of Interior special units arriving in the settlement. Their deployment is intended to fulfill security missions in accordance with a recent agreement brokered between the Syrian government and the SDF.
In addition to the entry into Hasakah, Syria TV reports that security forces are currently preparing to deploy units into the city of Qamishli.
The agreement, signed on January 27, mandates the deployment of Syrian internal security forces within the central districts of both Hasakah and Qamishli. This step marks the beginning of a broader integration process, wherein SDF formations will be incorporated into the official government military and security structures in the northeast.
Under the bilateral terms, three Syrian Army brigades composed of Kurdish fighters will be formed in the Al-Jazira region. Furthermore, a separate, distinct Kurdish brigade will be stationed in the Ain al-Arab (Kobani) district on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River in Aleppo province.
