The Turkish-backed opposition is obstructing the work on the Syrian constitution. Syria's permanent representative to the UN, Bassam Sabbagh, told a meeting of the world organization's Security Council on Wednesday.
"We are closely following the work of the Constitutional Committee, which held the eighth round, and we are expecting the ninth round," said the Syrian permanent representative. - "We hope that the special envoy [of the UN secretary-general for Syria, Geir Pedersen] will solve the logistical problems that some participants have mentioned. Unfortunately, the Turkish-appointed party, which insists it represents Syrians, is actually putting up all kinds of obstacles to work on the constitution, putting forward ideas that contradict the will of the Syrian people, their expectations and aspirations for a better future".
