Minister of Education and Science of Tajikistan Muhammadyusuf Imomzoda and First Deputy Minister of Education of Russia Alexander Bugayev have signed two intergovernmental agreements defining the status of Russian teachers and principles of functioning of five schools with Russian language of teaching being built in the republic. The signing ceremony took place in Dushanbe on Tuesday, a TASS correspondent reported.
"These agreements are necessary for all of us. The first is for the Russian teachers who have been working in Tajikistan for several years, their status is determined by this document, and the second agreement is the functioning of schools with the Russian language of instruction built in Tajikistan," said Imomzoda, welcoming the Russian delegation, headed by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk.
The head of Tajikistan's Ministry of Education called the construction of Russian schools a new stage of cooperation between the two countries. "We have joint universities, branches of Russian universities in Tajikistan, but in the general education sphere this is the first project," he stressed.
In turn, Overchuk noted that for Russia, this is also the first large-scale project. According to him, the number of students in these five schools will be about 6 thousand. "We are trying to make sure that the children are provided with the most modern teaching aids, that the most modern classroom equipment. Everyone understands how important and responsible it is and how it will bring our nations together," added the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia.
A Russian delegation headed by Overchuk arrived in Tajikistan to inspect the construction of five schools with Russian as the language of instruction. Overchuk is also scheduled to meet with Tajik Prime Minister Kohir Rasulzoda.
An agreement on the construction and material and technical equipment of five Russian-language general education institutions in Dushanbe, Khujand, Bokhtar, Kulyab and Tursunzade was signed in April 2019 between the governments of Tajikistan and Russia.
