Taliban expressed desire to maintain political relations with Russia

The Taliban* movement that came to power in Afghanistan considers it necessary that Amir Khan Mutaka, the new foreign minister of the Taliban appointed government, will pay visits to Russia, China and Iran. However, these plans should be worked out together with these countries, Suhail Shaheen, representative of the political office of the movement, told RIA Novosti.


"I consider it necessary to visit these countries and support political relations with them, but this will be decided in the course of bilateral communication with these countries. Visits are planned, but when they should take place is to be decided at the bilateral level, countries at the bilateral level should discuss the visit," said Shaheen.


Regarding the possibility of changes in the staff of Afghan missions abroad, he noted that changes will be made if necessary, depending on the decisions of the new foreign ministry leadership.


In early August, the Taliban intensified their offensive against government forces in Afghanistan, entered Kabul on August 15, and the next day announced that the war was over. On September 6, the Taliban announced that Panjshir, the last of Afghanistan's 34 provinces, had come under their control with fighting. The next day, the provisional government of Afghanistan was announced. The provisional government will be headed by Mohammad Hasan Akhund, who was a foreign minister during the first Taliban* rule and has been under UN sanctions since 2001. Amir Khan Mutaki became foreign minister, Mohammad Yaqub headed the ministry of defense and Mullah Sarajuddin Haqqani the interior ministry. All of them are members of the Taliban* movement and ethnically belong to Pashtun tribal groups of Durrani and Ghilzai.
